ANIMALS

I want to design animals. like jesus and god and allah and hebert boyer and stanley cohen.

I’m too lazy to dedicate my life to studying genetic engineering so I took the short cut.
I’m trying to design animals in my brain and draw them on paper and maybe one day make them out of timber and fabric and wire and other cheap materials.

John Locke in ‘An Essay Concerning Human Understanding’ attempts to determine the origin of ideas. he comes to the conclusion that all our ideas are derived from experience. We construct our ideas by combining and distilling the things we see and learn and experience around us. even the most revolutionary shit is derived from some extant source.

which is probably why people think god is so awesome. he apparently sucked all this worldly nonsense, including me, out of his fancy godly thumb. thats pretty unfathomable and I’d be impressed if I believed fairy tales.

okay so back to the point. I’m trying to design some animals to hang out with. I drew some stuff, then I drew it bigger because its easier for me to understand dimensions and proportions at a bigger scale than in a sketch book. I’ll probably stick these animal friends on some walls in my neighborhood soon. and one day maybe make them out of wood or fabric. who knows. I’ll keep you posted.

Also all this animal talk is very much inspired by Disco and Micheal and Naartjie…
and also the giraffes they sell on the side of the road…

fashion demons in the linen cupboard

devils in the folds of the fabric.
dancing in the disco lights
oriental silks and nylon tights

another day another drawing.

looking forward to coming to cape town soon… lets hold thumbs together?

a world apart

nothing to do but fly away
cant remember how to fly

fok!

boredom is my inspiration. I miss my friends. can’t wait for spring. my drawings are changing to suit their new environment. lots of thin lines.

I might not be bulletproof

but I’m pretty good at dodging

one hundred percent unhelpful

its just a drawing but I think its going places

pablo neruda, my money my man

Pablo Neruda is a Chilean poet, he died in 1973, he published his first book of poems at 16, joined the communist party, ran for president of Chile in 1969. He published over 60 books in his lifetime. Won the Nobel prize for poetry in 1971. His memoirs were published 4 years after he died in 1977.

In his memoirs he writes candidly about being poor, being rich, having sex with as many women as possible, loving only one woman (and then later another one), fighting the government, being the government, hanging out with Pablo Picasso, Mahatma Ghandi, Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Mao Tsetung, Louis Aragon and various other famous alcoholics, paedophiles and working class heroes.

For an old man he was really proud of being pretty wasted for a large period of his life - which is okay with me.
and he wrote some very beautiful poetry.

he was also alot more serious than this photo suggests

Neruda is probably my favourite dead poet.

I drew this picture for him.

welcome to the chapamparama!

I used to think I could do everything I wanted to do alone, I’ve grown to learn that time is the enemy of isolation (there aren’t enough hours in your life to do everything you want, but there can be enough friends to try).
