Yeoville

New painting in Yeoville.
The colours are a bit dull, but we live and we learn eh…

Now that I look at the pictures, this does seem overly morose, no one complained about sad faces though… I’m not depressed, trust me

sad faces

I went painting in Wesbury with Lunar last month. Put up the biggest characters I’ve ever painted, it was pretty cool, besides for the community ‘leader’ who shat me out for drawing ‘SAD FACES’ “If you want to draw sad faces, go to soweto, ons is nie kaffirs here, we dont need sad faces”, almost got punched (again) - yeah another day, dodging bullets in sunny South Africa.

The neighbourhood was really cool. Its a part of Wesbury that is all blocks of flats - they call it Afghan cause it used to be thugged out like a war zone but also cause Af Gun = Guns Down (thanks Hanno) in afrikaans. The building we painted was stepped back from the street so it created a kind of courtyard space where every one hung out and the kids got up to shit.

8 months is a lifetime

I know I suck, hate me.

I haven’t updated since nov. 2010, fuzzy is very annoyed but thats a good thing. Johannesburg is less and less entertaining but thats also a good thing. I’m in south korea for a while so I’ll probably update alot, no friends = internet time, which is another good thing.

I painted this wall with Lunar in may, he’s the best, really he is. we painted another wall around the same time but I haven’t resized the pictures, I’ll post them when I do.

ANIMALS

I want to design animals. like jesus and god and allah and hebert boyer and stanley cohen.

I’m too lazy to dedicate my life to studying genetic engineering so I took the short cut.
I’m trying to design animals in my brain and draw them on paper and maybe one day make them out of timber and fabric and wire and other cheap materials.

John Locke in ‘An Essay Concerning Human Understanding’ attempts to determine the origin of ideas. he comes to the conclusion that all our ideas are derived from experience. We construct our ideas by combining and distilling the things we see and learn and experience around us. even the most revolutionary shit is derived from some extant source.

which is probably why people think god is so awesome. he apparently sucked all this worldly nonsense, including me, out of his fancy godly thumb. thats pretty unfathomable and I’d be impressed if I believed fairy tales.

okay so back to the point. I’m trying to design some animals to hang out with. I drew some stuff, then I drew it bigger because its easier for me to understand dimensions and proportions at a bigger scale than in a sketch book. I’ll probably stick these animal friends on some walls in my neighborhood soon. and one day maybe make them out of wood or fabric. who knows. I’ll keep you posted.

Also all this animal talk is very much inspired by Disco and Micheal and Naartjie…
and also the giraffes they sell on the side of the road…
