YOURSTRULY

Boomshaka!Last month my good skating buddy Daniel Holland of the YOURSTRULY Deli on Long ST was kind enough to ask me to put up works for the month of June.If you dont know Daniel and you live in Cape Town and you haven’t drank his coffee, eaten his sandwiches, gotten drunk or gone on a skating mission with him your life can be improved. All pics were taken by Adam Kent Wiest, here’s how it went down.

Son of a Sangoma and wouldn’t have it any other way, magic is nice..

Fuzzy pretending to know how to read, funny stuff!

I like this one alot because it’s true…

Thanks to all who helped Andile,Dan,Thati and all you sexy beasts that bought the works, your all going to be Kings and Queens in the new world! Was really happy to get some different opinions about my new works, I experimented with alot of different styles in my illustrations and paintings. What you think it is in your head alot of the time is very different to what it is on paper, the trick is to fuse the two the best way you can without getting to self involved. This is what I’m getting from this art nonsense.Starting a new leaf theres a storm on it’s way and this time round I would like to be prepared. When I rap more I forget how to draw and when I draw more I forget how to rap either way one of them ends up sulking and trying to get my attention….It’s good I have friends to give me hugs and high fives even when I do bullshit!BIg shouts to Nolan,Andile,Disco,Wandi,Jake,Phumlani and Thandi with out you I would certainly be dead.

My hommie Shillings!

Some cats just cant stop singing. Something inside of them compels them to hum out a tune even during the worst of times and its great!David Shillinglaw is one of those kinda cats. He cant stop singing, drawing, dancing, painting, busting out ridiculous jokes and just using every second of his time to have the best time in the world! Were ever he is and when ever it is he maintains this persona and its great! It’s a rare occurrence to meet someone like my boy Shillings and im glad I did. He came down from London which is a city in England (for those who didn’t know), as part of A word of art’s residency program and was later joined by the lovely Indigo who is a wonderful painting and photography talent from Canada. They had a super exciting and successful joint exhibition titled “everything must go” and indeed it all went. Here are some super dope pics of a paste up mission I made with David in Woodstock about three weeks ago. Pictures were taken by my good friend and creative ally Adam Kent Wiest, what a bloody hero!

Big thanks to Big Space and the ever beautiful and wonderful Thandi Steenkamp for helping us put this bad boy up. It wasn’t easy because cape town is windy, cops are watching and allot of paper was used. In the end we made it happen and all of us were pleased with our hard work. To David and Indigo Mr Fuzzy Slipperz misses you both from the very bottom of his tiny grayish pear shaped heart!!!check out the links for their art http://cargocollective.com/davidshillinglaw#1453504/All-That-Regalia and http://www.artistaday.com/?p=5616

Cant forget the babies:) More art to come soon I promise. It has really been super fun, strange, awesome and dismal times this young man has been going through but my work will be done one way or another…

I ART SA in a big way!

So about three weeks ago I got a phone call from a good friend and supa talented artist Ricky Lee Gordan aka Freddy Sam to be apart of an amaizing community mural project called “I art SA” http://www.i-art-sa-project.com/ the project is a collaboration between adidas originals,Art South Africa and “A word of art” to celebrate local artists and mural art threw different communities in Cape town and Joburg. Our first stop was Woodstock in Cape Town!

This was a very big and multilayerd project that involved over 14 creatives including artists,a art collective, photographers and a videographer and the whole process was documented using stills by Jonx Pillemer and video by Rowan Pybus of Makhulu.Actually all the pics your gona be viewing were by Jonx, what a great talent he truly is..big shout to him!

I like how my wall came together, there was a little bit of back and forth with the colours and at some stage it was looking like a sweet wrapper, but I think I made it all came together @ the end.The piece is called “pull yourself towards yourself”
Next up was a live painting we did @ the Toffie fest a week later.I must say this wall has so far been one of my favourite collaborations the colour and composition came together really well and I also really enjoyed working with Linsey Levendall of Bison who is fast becoming a local legend for his intense imagination and crazy illustration and painting work and the Boamistura collective all the way from Barcelona!Five supa cool cats that have been painting together since they were kids,a great mix of artists and friends that work better than most things in this world!hope you dig it and check out the links bellow for more on the I-art-sa project….

Much love and respect for every body who was apart of the project and also to those who have supported it…Next stop for i-art-sa Soweto in the spring cant wait!
